Hey everybody this is Joel Kelly, @joelkelly on Twitter, my blog is Ingenioustries, but that’s also probably where you’re watching this, so that’s irrelevant information.
Anyway, just back from my two weeks of vacation away from Halifax, so that was nice, awesome vacation. Arrived home to find that both my copy of Hugh MacLeod’s Ignore Everybody, this book here, and my awesome Sound of Young America t-shirt had arrived in the mail. So that’s, that’s great. Not as good as having more vacation, but also cool.
This video blog thing might become a thing, might not. Hopefully every Monday, we’ll call it Video Monday. Don’t Google that, because I’m pretty sure there are lots of people calling their video blogs Video Mondays.
Anyway, I think, I think I’m doing this because I have nothing write, and also I’m trying to figure out, my last post kind of talked about just trying to figure out why blogs are popular, why they’re not, etc. and good blogs tell stories is basically what I talked about there.
And of course the natural realization, well the thing I have to address yet again that I’ve already talked about before is that my blog doesn’t have a story, not so much a point. I mentioned in the post that good blogs aren’t easily replaced by other blogs talking about the same things. Mine of course likely falls into the category of easily replaced.
Gonna try to do something about that. And hopefully I’ll be figuring that out throughout writing posts about figuring that out, and maybe that’ll be fun for someone. Yes, other blogs have done that before but I haven’t yet, so there’s that. So we’re going to give that a go! Hopefully posts to follow throughout the week, and maybe Video Monday will become a thing. Perhaps you could develop a story around your bead … why/how it developed, if it has a name, whether you should shave it off, would that be like killing a memory/friend, and you could ask for votes – kinda like "So You Think You Should Shave?" …

Like the vid idea, it's different and neat. Especially on a Monday so i don't have to read (no joke).
Videos are the way to go! I'm going to be incorporating interviews and other stuff on my blog soon.
What kind of camera did you use?

Beards are fine. Neck beards, on the other hand, have an implication that the wearer desires to start a neighborhood wrestling league. Just sayin'. I understand the complications involved with shaping it under the chin, though.
I have nothing constructive to say. Maybe do the vblog in front of a poster or something, though, so the viewer can choose not to look you in the eye if they don't have the confidence to do so?
Anon: The neck beardedness was trimmed for work today :) Vacation beard does what it wants, work beard looks a little more presentable.

You almost sound apologetic that your blog isn't amazingly different from other blogs, or that other people have done what you are doing. As long as you keep moving along & don't succumb to anxiety of influence all should be just fine.
And now I'm off to google "Video Monday" because I like to live dangerously.
Anon: Hmm… It's because they're in viddler and not youtube. I find viddler easier to upload/user than YT, but you make a good point. I'll consider YT for the next one.

Hello. So, first off, not so crappy- no apologies needed =). I always love it when someone I am following/reading their blog throws down a video- helps so much to get to know them a bit better. I am really new to this blogging business and appreciated your thoughts on what constitutes a good one. After some consideration, I am pretty sure my space on the internet is more of a personal diary than a blog for the good of the collective. Which brings me back to your blog.
